Gleeful Goodies for Baby Boomers

I'm scared.

This article was going to be about Baby Boomers who are retiring with glee. Instead, the 'R' (Retirement) word is often used in the same sentence with the following words - dire, dismal, dejected, struggling, frustrated, concerns, looms... you get the picture.

I've set up Google Alerts to send me items on this topic and 95% of them are doom and gloom. The articles, news reports, blogs, webpages, gurus and such talk about

1) boomers don't have enough money to retire so need to work longer,

2) boomers continue to work to keep health insurance,

3) boomers are being forced out of their jobs before they're ready and are not financially or mentally prepared,

4) boomers are adding an increased tax burden due to the large numbers who are entering retirement,

5) society will lose tax revenue on boomer incomes and have to pay out pensions,

6) boomer health care needs will double from $10 billion to $20 billion in the next 20 years.

However, being the optimistic soul that I am, I know there are many positive aspects of retirement -whether it was forced on us or not.

There are no assignments due, papers to write or presentations to give... but there's so much to learn. It's for your own enjoyment and learning pleasure. Call your nearest college or university and ask how you can participate.

What else is out there? Let me know so I can feel some hope again... Please!
